Netflix has officially greenlit a sequel to the hit series Peaky Blinders, reviving the saga of the Shelby family beyond its original end. Set in 1953, in the aftermath of the war, the new story will follow the Shelbys as they navigate Birmingham’s reconstruction, industrial change, and power struggles over rebuilding the city. Executive producer Steven Knight says the focus will be “on legacy—what the city lost, what it gained, and who holds the reins now.”

While the original Peaky Blinders ended in 2022 after six seasons, plus a feature film in post-production, this sequel will roll out over two seasons, each with six one-hour episodes. Key characters will confront the tensions of a society in flux: war veterans returning home, housing shortages, political unrest, and the collision between tradition and modernity. Whether Tommy Shelby returns onscreen is still under wraps; the show will bring in new faces, promising fresh conflicts that span crime, politics, and identity.

The Shelby story has always been as much about character as it is about history. The original series drew praise for its style—costumes, music, cinematography—and its raw take on class, violence, and loyalty. Fans will expect the sequel to match that tone, while exploring new terrain: post-war evictions, bombed buildings, and the moral toll of conflict. Netflix believes there’s demand for more from the Peaky world, citing international viewership and cultural impact.

Production is expected to begin in early 2026, with filming in locations that evoke both the grit of working-class Birmingham and the rebuilding ambitions of a war-scarred city finding hope. The screenplay and story arcs will likely lean into family conflict: how the younger Shelbys take control, how the old guard resists change, and what crime means when society itself is being remade.
