Arsenal have struck a landmark deal for 16-year-old Irish winger Victor Ozhianvuna, agreeing terms with Shamrock Rovers in a deal worth around €2 million (about £1.74 million). Though officially under Arsenal’s banner, the youngster will remain at Shamrock Rovers until January 2027 due to FA and Premier League rules that restrict international transfers for players under 18.

This transfer marks the highest fee ever paid for a player from the League of Ireland, beating previous records including that of Mason Melia’s move to Tottenham. Ozhianvuna made his senior debut shortly after turning 16. He has featured in league and cup matches, scored in the FAI Cup, and even appeared in a UEFA Conference League fixture — becoming one of the youngest players to do so. Internationally, he has donned the Irish shirt at under-15, under-17, and under-18 levels.

Arsenal’s reputation for nurturing young talent under manager Mikel Arteta adds weight to this signing. The club has previously brought through prospects such as Ethan Nwaneri and others from its academy, which tightens the expectations around how Ozhianvuna might develop. When he eventually arrives in North London, he is likely to be integrated into the youth setup before being considered for first team chances.

While fans will need to wait for nearly a year before seeing Ozhianvuna in Arsenal colours, the financial gamble reflects both faith in his potential and Arsenal’s long-term strategy. With many big clubs investing heavily in youth players overseas, this move positions Arsenal as one of the frontrunners in cornering promising young talent while adhering to regulatory constraints.
